Where we hang our hats with style!
STUDIO d's goals are focused on developing
technical ability, encouraging poise, grace and most importantly - self-esteem in a NON-COMPETITIVE
dance environment.
We will instill a positive and creative attitude while maintaining the discipline of dance. The time spent at SdDC will be memorable and will enhance the
students' life.
Whether they study at STUDIO d for only one year or continue their education for many years to come, the student will be positively influenced.

I’'m Alissa Baswell. I am from Olathe, KS, but now live in Blue Springs, MO with my parents. I have been dancing for 9 years. I got started dancing when my figure skating coach suggested it to me to become more graceful and flexible. I began competitive figure skating when I was 2 ½ and continued for 14 years. I started competitive dancing for one year at a studio when I was 12. I then moved on to cheerleading for many years and began dancing again my sophomore year of high school at Olathe Northwest. Following graduation in 2006, I went on to dance at Simpson College, in Indianola, Iowa for 3 years. I was the captain of the dance team for the 2007-2009 seasons. I then transferred to Northwest Missouri State University. I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Education in Family and Consumer Sciences in December 2011. I specialize in jazz and contemporary / modern styles of dance. I am also trained in hip-hop and musical numbers. I am so excited to start instructing at STUDIO d! I love passing on my different styles of choreography and helping girls to become the best dancers they can be!

Maria Gentry
Dance began for me 13 years ago. Tap was the start, then jazz, followed eight years ago by ballet. Dance is a wonderful complement to my strong academic background. As a junior at Blue Springs South High School, I am involved in various academic and service-oriented clubs. My experiences from school-- working to achieve a goal and always demanding my personal best-- translate into what I like best about dance. As a first year assistant, I am so excited to use my love of dance to help your children achieve their dance goals.

I am involved in Tap, Jazz, Drill Team, Lyrical, and Hip Hop as well as the production numbers at our studio. This coming year will be my first year as an assistant and I am very excited to get to know your children and have the honor to work with them. January 23, 2012
Studio d dance families,
We need to make an announcement about our upcoming recital in June 2012, drum roll please………….......
Our recital has officially become a Production, why you might ask, because we are hittin’ the big city and your dancers will be dancing on the same stage as some of Broadway and Hollywood’s biggest names.
Our Production of, Studio d’s Got Talent, on June 22nd and June 23rd, 2012 will be at the FOLLY THEATER!! That’s right, the lights, the stage, the history of the Folly will now be something you can treasure forever when you see your dancers on the Folly’s stage. The Folly Theater is located at 300 W. 12th Street, in downtown Kansas City, MO.
Now, let me give you a bit of background as to how the change of venue came about. Last fall, the Lee’s Summit school district sent me a letter stating the “new” charges that we would incur when we had our recital at Lee’s Summit West High School. These new charges were more than double what we have been charged in the past and quite honestly, I was in shock. They stated it was due to the levy not passing last year and this was a way to recoup that lost revenue (the actual cost sheet they sent me is available for viewing at the front desk). We immediately began looking into other local districts to see if we could perform there, most didn’t even give us a chance to provide details, they just said they don’t allow dance studios to perform at their auditoriums.
With that being said, we began looking into actual performance venues and the Folly Theatre was the best fit for us. They will provide to us the quality we have never had at LSW with lighting, sound and a professional staff who will be manning the stage the entire time. We will have ushers, a House Manager for anything we need and even a concession stand.
Our biggest excitement comes with being able to say your children will be dancing at the Folly. We also are happy to say we don’t have to charge more for the recital fee having it at the Folly; we would have needed to double the fee for every dancer if we would have stayed at LSW. The Folly seats 1,078 people and will provide to us an opportunity to really know what it is like to be professionally produced and managed by their staff; there are even side viewing boxes that jet out on the sides of each wall for seating!
We know there will be some questions and maybe even concerns about parking, ticket prices, dress rehearsal and more. We are working on a list of questions we feel will/might arise and will have a complete listing of FAQ’s coming to you on Friday, January 27th. Please know we have spent many hours, days and doors that were shut on us during this process and when we met with the Folly staff, we truly felt this was the right decision.
Our hope at the end of the day is you will envision with us the awesome opportunity your dancers now have to perform at a venue that is quite honestly, breathtaking! Our entire studio staff is beyond excited about this opportunity and what it says about who we are as a dance studio. Through this experience, our studio will stand out among others as a studio who wants every dancer to feel like the STAR they are!
Thank you for having an open mind about this change, please know we are working through many details to make this a positive experience for every Studio d family. Here’s to a fantastic “Production”.
Sincerely,
Ms. Dawnelle
